Sunday Booze

Enjoying a Sunday Afternoon at Ballast Point Brewery

At the very end of Marina Drive in Long Beach, California Ballast Point Brewery has created an oasis for community members and visitors.

When you walk into the restaurant there is an open floor plan that invites you to pick your most comfortable spot to enjoy carefully crafted beer and good food. There are lounge chairs and couches that line the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the marina’s, or a cozy seat at the bar. The outdoor patio is ideal during the day, and at night a fire pit welcomes everyone to enjoy the night air.

I decided to try their Watermelon Dorado which is a double IPA with watermelon infused. It was refreshingly light and reminded me of a summer tea with an extra kick at the end. My second sample was the California Kolsch which is a German Style Pale Ale. This one was my favorite, the flavor was light while still bold with a lot of body.

For brunch I decided on their burger with french fries, and sampled some of the other food choices on the menu from the party I was with. The group favorite was the Fish Tacos with Chipotle sauce.

If you are like me and still exploring your palate when it comes to beer, I suggest starting somewhere like Ballast Point. The prices were reasonable, and during the week you can sample multiple beers, and the ambiance is well worth the experience.
